the end

Megan said she doesn't want anymore stories about her. This is it then. The last post. It's been fun. Megan's mom signing out.

Green

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

I didn't have any problem waking her up this morning. She was too excited to go to school today. Last night, she had laid out her clothes to wear for today. Not even the cold drizzle dampened her mood this morning.

"Where's your green?" Kasey asked.

Megan unzipped her coat to show Kasey her green shirt. She's not gonna get pinched today but then again, Miss K said, "We're not going around pinching everybody."

run - r u n - run

Megan's pretty good with spelling.

They have started doing this in class. Spelling. Every Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday, they have new words they need to memorize. 5 words of the same family (this week, it's the un family. In addition to the 5 words, they have 2 challenge words. That's 17 new words per week.

A couple of weeks ago, one of the challenge words was really challenging for her. It was not just a word, it was "St. Patrick's Day". She complained that this was very hard. She did OK but not entirely correct. She wrote down "st. patrick's day" instead. She forgets to use capital letters a lot of times.

In Kindergarten, it was OK to write in all caps. At the beginning of 1st grade, they were encouraged to use small letters. Now, they have to write properly. She's writing pretty good, too. I can actually understand what she's trying to write. The best part is her reading.

She's really good at reading. Last night, as we were driving home from Karate, she read aloud a sign, "Caution children crossing" and asked what do they mean. I had to laugh, if you think about it, it doesn't make much of a sense. We just got used to that sign that we've taken what it means for granted.

David

Mean ole David.

David is one of the kids in her table. He's half-Filipino and I know this because on their International Thanksgiving Feast, when he saw the steamed rice, he asked his mom for Soy Sauce. ;-)

Yesterday, I was lonely.

Why?

Because it was just me and mean ole David on the table.

Why is he mean?

Because he sings these songs that's mean and nasty.

What song?

We will, we will rock you
Suck you
Punch you in the face
Flush you down the toilet
Hope you like it

(Ha ha ha! I know it's mean but I couldn't help but laugh, that song is too funny.)

Who does he sing it to?

All the girls but he doesn't sing it to the boys. The boys are his best friends.

Dr. Suess

Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss!

To commemorate his birthday, her class brought to school their favorite Dr. Suess book, a stuff toy, and a blanket. They'll be creating a reading nest for their toy using the blanket. She brought Green Eggs and Ham, Teddy (an Irish terrier puppy toy), Jasmine (Hello Kitty toy) and blanket. Her backpack was bulging.

She got to school and some of her classmates were all lined up with their backpacks bulging as well. Chad greeted her with a "Big backpack!" and showed his backpack. Then, they bumped each other's backpack. Cody got in trouble. He was sent to stand alone next to the rail by the door. Poor kid. He alway gets in trouble.

first kiss

Mommy, once, me and Joey kissed...

What? When did that happen?

Yeah, in my closet, when we were moving to Worlington.

How did you kiss?

I don't want to tell you.

Why?

Cause, you're gonna say, "Ooooiiii!"

No, I'm not gonna do that.

progress report 1.2

Second Quarter Comments

"Megan enjoys small group work and works well independently. She has a happy, cooperative attitude toward school and learning. She is a very kind, helpful child and has an ability to get along with both peers and adults. One area she needs to work a bit on is selfcontrol, as at times, she is visiting with neighbors instead of working on the task at hand."
